What You Can Do

Exercise your rights. People in recovery from addiction have legal protections under The Americans with Disabilities Act, The Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Fair Housing Act and The Workforce Investment Act. Click here for information about the key Federal agencies that accept complaints alleging disability-based discrimination.

Collect stories about individuals who have experienced employment discrimination against people in recovery. We are compiling these stories, please send them to us.

Interest print and broadcast reporters in doing a story about the barriers to employment that people in recovery face. Sometimes called “pitching a story,” what’s involved is contacting reporters that you know or would like to develop a relationship with and suggesting that they consider doing a story on work place discrimination.
