It’s truly amazing how recovery community organizations and individual recovery advocates came together around the recent HBO documentary Addiction. In approximately 90 days, the recovery community mobilized in 30 major cities around the country to watch the film and discuss its implications. Not to be outdone or left out, smaller communities also organized events and used the documentary to showcase the power of long-term recovery.

Read about the activities carried out in four cities!

Pictures from these events are coming soon!

Here are some of the impressive statistics of what our efforts were able to achieve:

  • 30 major cities hosted large scale premieres with expert panels
  • 100 other cities hosted public screenings of the documentary
  • 500 house parties were held with over 15,000 people attending
  • 50 town hall meetings were held using the documentary and focusing on recovery related issues such as insurance discrimination, restoring the right to vote to ex-offenders and the effectiveness of Recovery Community Support Programs (RCSP)
  • The blending together of the prevention, treatment and recovery community
  • The development of many new partners who are now supportive of our cause
