Act to end insurance discrimination facing people with addiction and mental illness
Thanks to all of your advocacy, our efforts to take the first step to end insurance discrimination faced by people with mental illness and addiction are still on the table in Congress. The next few weeks are critical.
Where we are today: Three House committees have passed H.R. 1424, the Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act of 2007. The Senate has passed the Mental Health Parity Act of 2007. There are efforts underway to negotiate a compromise that will result in a strong bill that can be passed by the Senate and the House.
In the meantime, we need to turn up the heat so that Congressional leaders pay attention to this issue in the few remaining days of this Congress.
Help us end practices like higher co-pays and deductibles, restrictive day and visit limits and lower and annual lifetime caps on people seeking mental illness and addiction treatment and recovery services! Take Action this Friday!
