Campaigns: There’s Nothing Glamorous About Addiction

In 2003, recovery advocates came together in a successful Faces & Voices of Recovery campaign to persuade the management of Parfums Christian Dior to change the way it marketed its newly released product, a scent called Addict. Advocates spoke out against the advertising, charging that it glamorized the health crisis of addiction and trivialized the impact of addictions on individuals, families and communities.

The result: Dior, after meeting with Faces & Voices of Recovery representatives and others, vowed to revamp its portrayal of this product and to bring more awareness of addiction’s devastation to its work.
