The Joel Hernandez Voice of the Recovery Community Award

Congratulations to Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) for receiving the first annual Voice of the Recovery Community Award on June 18th in Washington, DC at the offices of Spriggs & Hollingsworth.  One hundred Faces & Voices friends and supporters gathered to honor CCAR and celebrate recovery and recovery advocacy.

Joel Hernandez’ daughters spoke movingly about their dad and how proud they and other family members were of him, the award and CCAR for being its first recipient. CCAR board member William Leary accepted the award from Faces & Voices board chair Merlyn Karst on behalf of CCAR staff and volunteers, many of whom were there.

The evening started with remarks from Rep. Jim Ramstad (R-MN) who called on advocates to think beyond the pending victory on a bill to end insurance discrimination and look to future opportunities to advocate for other necessary policy changes that will make it possible for even more people to get help with their addiction. We want to thank everyone who made the event possible and let you know that we will be posting a video and updates shortly.

Thank you!
