Advocates for Recovery, a volunteer group supporting recovery from chemical addiction, is presenting their Seventh Annual Recovery Rally on the steps fo Denver City Hall. Invited to address the event this year are Speaker of Colorado House, Andrew Romanoff, Denver DA, Mitch Moressey and many others who are concerned about substance abuse and support individuals in recovery from this disease, as well as those with stories about their recovery. The Rally, which is open to the public, begins at 1o AM with live music by Tommy Thomas, as well as face-painting and balloons for the kids. In previous years, hundreds of individuals interested in recovery have participated and are welcomed to also address the crowd with their stories of recovery. Advocates for Recovery (AfR) is a grassroots organization made up of people throughout Colorado who are part of the new recovery movement. Its mission is to educate the public about the disease of addiction, to dispel its myths, and to reduce the stigma associated with the disease. AfR is allied with the national Faces and Voices of Recovery group (www.facesandvoicesofrecovery.org).
