Federal financial aid to students with drug convictions update

When Congress returns in early February, partial repeal of the ban on federal financial aid to students with drug convictions will be considered as part of the budget reconciliation bill. The House and Senate versions of the bill amend the law so that the ban applies to aid for students who commit drug offenses while they are in college. Faces & Voices has endorsed this important first step to increase the availability of aid to thousands of people, many of whom are in recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs.

Recovery Month 2006

The first in a series of nine Recovery Month Webcasts for September 2006’s National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month looks back at 2005 events and activities sponsored by recovery community organizations with videos, interviews and photographs from events that were organized all over the country.

A Join Together Public Policy Panel is developing recommendations for the improvement of treatment and prevention of substance use disorders. The Missouri Recovery Network's new poster asks "How will anyone know about recovery from addiction if we don't tell them? Substance Abuse Treatment, Prevention, and Policy journal launched

An open access, peer-reviewed, online journal encompassing all aspects of research concerning substance abuse, with a focus on policy issues has been launched.

Regional listservs launched

Faces & Voices of Recovery launched regional listservs in early January, to better link recovery advocates and connect regional representatives on our Board of Directors with recovery advocates in their region. The Faces & Voices staff apologizes to Betty Currier, the Northeast representative and recovery advocates in her region, for a rocky start. We have taken steps to address the issue.
