April 6 is Alcohol Screening Day
Organize or attend an Alcohol Screening Day event in your community. In an effort to help people recognize the signs of an alcohol problem and, in turn, seek treatment and recovery, Screening for Mental Health is sponsoring the eighth annual National Alcohol Screening Day (NASD) on April 6, 2006.
Held in April as part of National Alcohol Awareness Month, NASD is an education and screening event designed to raise awareness on how alcohol affects health; help individuals evaluate their alcohol use; and provide referrals to local treatment and support resources for those who need further evaluation.
Alcohol problems are pervasive. Millions of Americans - one in every 13 adults - suffer from alcohol problems. Millions more drink at times or in ways that can place themselves or others at risk. And for those who don't personally have a drinking problem, they may be directly affected by someone who does - approximately one-half of U.S. adults report a family history of alcoholism or problem drinking.
For more information or to register to host an NASD screening event, visit www.NationalAlcoholScreeningDay.org or call 781.239.0071.
