2007 Faces of Recovery Calendar
St. Joseph’s Healthcare, in conjunction with Greater Macomb (Michigan) Project VOX, has created a calendar featuring local people from all walks of life who are in long-term recovery. The calendar demonstrates that recovery is possible and it’s happening every day. Greater Macomb Project Vox, or the voice of recovery, is a grass root effort led by those in recovery. Members seek to educate society about addiction, decrease stigma attached to it, and bring awareness to the need for available and effective treatment. The group is sponsored by Community Assessment Referral and Education (CARE) and meets at its Fraser, MI offices. Project Vox Representative Deborah Garrett is one of the people in recovery featured in the calendar and said the message of Project Vox needs to be heard throughout the community.
“The calendar shows real people in our community who have struggled with addiction and are now in recovery – most for many years,” Garrett said. “By highlighting these community members, we hope to show that recovery is possible and can lead to success and peace.”
“St. Joe’s has a long history of helping patients recover from substance abuse addiction,” notes Shelia Sperti, Director of Behavioral Medicine Services. “Every day we see what happens when people suffer from addiction. When patients enter recovery, it’s a victory for all of us. We applaud the work of Project Vox to help bring the issues of substance abuse and recovery options to the forefront. Creating the Faces of Recovery Calendar was just one way to assist in that effort.”
