Sentencing and Incarceration Alternatives Project

Sentencing and Incarceration Alternatives Project funding opportunity from the Open Society Institute (OSI). Funds are available for grassroots/community-led advocacy, constituency-building and mobilization; coalition building; public education; impact litigation; policy-driven research and analysis; and leadership development.

Nonprofits, schools, government agencies and others may apply for funding that will:

  • promote alternatives to incarceration that emphasize rehabilitation and treatment;
  • support campaigns, research, and policies seeking to end race and class disparities in sentencing and incarceration;
  • reduce the length of criminal sentences and promote judicial discretion in sentencing;
  • limit prison growth and prison privatization; and
  • empower communities most affected by mass incarceration to develop and advocate for alternative policies that address underlying social, racial, and economic inequality.
