Become a Founding Member!
Dear Recovery Advocate,
Thanks to your commitment and support, Faces & Voices of Recovery and our recovery advocacy movement continue to grow and make a difference in the lives of our families, friends and neighbors.
In September 2006, we launched our founding member campaign, which runs through September 2007, Recovery Month. If you haven’t done so already, I urge you to become a founding member of Faces & Voices of Recovery so that we can continue to raise our organized voices in the media and before policy makers at the local, state and federal levels.
As part of our annual board retreat in Washington, DC last month, Faces & Voices of Recovery’s board of directors approved a work plan for the coming year that will bring more recovery advocacy media trainings, webinars and organizing assistance to recovery advocates and recovery community organizations. We will also continue our advocacy for enactment of a strong federal bill to end insurance discrimination this year – the Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act of 2007, full funding of programs that support recovery, and the Second Chance Act.
And we are looking forward to Rally for Recovery! events across the country this September 15 as part of Recovery Month. Look for information about Recovery Voices Count! our recovery community civic engagement campaign, in the coming months. Tom Coderre, our National Field Director, will be heading this important project.
We are very pleased with the increased activity and advocacy that we see around the country and encourage you to help us grow. This Recovery Month we are looking to members—old and new—to help grow our membership! It is a great way to participate in and contribute to delivering our message.
All of us must continue to be engaged to get a strong Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act on the President’s desk as early this Fall as possible. Thank you for all of your efforts.
Warmest regards,

Merlyn Karst
Board Chair
