Lost in Woonsocket

The Lost in Woonsocket campaign offers showings of an inspiring film and sales of a Special Edition DVD as fund raisers for recovery, homeless, and faith based organizations.

Faces & Voices is pleased to be partnering with the filmmakers to get out the word about the power and the proof of long-term recovery from addiction as part of a larger project called Lost and Found in America. They knew nothing about addiction or recovery options when they met Mark and Normand, featured in the film, when they were filming the Random 1 television series. They proceeded the way they always did when a story found them, blindly trusting they would be shown the right direction. They started calling around trying to get Mark into a detox center and immediately ran into the insurance issues so many seeking recovery face. They ended up breaking their rules developed for the Random1 television series about not spending their our own money to get Mark into detox when they determined that they could not leave him out there for another night.

At the time, they could only help Mark, so Normand got left behind. When Mark’s story aired on A&E in November 2005, it received Random 1's highest Nielson rating to date. In the E-mails that poured in the next day, one in particular caught their eye. It was from a man claiming to be Normand’s son. He and his family had seen the promo for Mark’s story on A&E and recognized Normand, as their father. They hadn’t seen him in 13 years. Their E-mail was not asking for help, they just wanted to know where the filmmakers were when they shot Mark’s story. It was now the middle of winter and in spite of the trouble Normand’s drinking had caused in the family, they couldn’t leave him out there alone.

They were faced with a dilemma. They had always felt bad about leaving Normand behind, but if they helped his family find him, this story was no longer “random.” The rest of the story is as they say… history. Watch “Lost in Woonsocket” to see the incredible string of “co-incidences” that changed everyone involved in Random 1 and “Lost in Woonsocket.”

The film has premiered to sold out houses at the South by Southwest Film Festival and just when this story seemed complete, the next calling arose.

As a result of the reaction film has generated from those who work with the homeless and those seeking recovery, a Special Edition of the “Lost in Woonsocket” DVD is being offered in partnership with Lost & Found in America as a fundraiser for organizations and individuals involved with recovery and homeless programs and faith-based ministries.
