Recovery Voices Count
The Winter 2008 issue of Rising! is all about our nonpartisan civic engagement campaign. There's a Call to Action from former MA Governor Michael Dukakis and stories from NH recovery advocates.

Welcome! To Faces & Voices newest staff person, Aaron Kucharski, who has joined us as Field Organizer to work on our Recovery Voices Count campaign for the next six months. Aaron's a person in long-term recovery with extensive work experience as a field organizer. He'll be working on the Recovery Voices Count voter registration, voter education and get-out-the vote activities.
Thanks to the many recovery advocates who put a face and a voice on recovery in this week's Newsweek magazine cover story, "What Addicts Need." The story starts off with, "Addiction isn't a weakness; it's an illness."
2008 Faces and Voices' organizing network
On February 28, Faces & Voices' organizing network will get underway to work with recovery community organizations on Rally for Recovery! and Recovery Voices Count. If you'd like to participate and to find out more, contact us.
Recovery advocacy in the states
Missouri recovery advocates are following up with state Department of Corrections officials on the heals of a recent news story about a $17.5 million dollar surplus in the Missouri intervention Fee program, which has required people on probation and parole to pay $30.00 a month to provide ‘community corrections and intervention services for offenders.'
People Advocating Recovery (PAR) is mobilizing recovery advocates for a Restoration of Voting Rights Lobby Day and Rally on Thursday, February 28th at the State Capitol in Frankfort, KY. PAR is part of a broad coalition of organizations working to restore voting rights for Kentuckians and PAR members have been in the forefront of this important advocacy campaign.
