Rally for Recovery this September!

We are excited to announce that the Hands Across the Bridge at Chain of Rocks Bridge in St. Louis, MO will be the 2008 Rally for Recovery! hub event, building on the 2007 Liberty State Park, NJ hub event. As part of Recovery Month, recovery community organizations across the country will be coming together on September 20th to Rally for Recovery. We're looking forward to working with advocates in Illinois and Missouri. 

Congress Works on Ending Insurance Discrimination

Negotiations continue between leaders in the US Senate and House of Representatives to reach a compromise on a bill to address insurance discrimination faced by people with addiction and mental illness. Use our Online Advocacy Action Center to ask your Senators and Representative to urge Congressional leaders to move quickly to enact a bill this year. Learn more...

Resources

The United Way of America has issued a report, Goals for the Common Good, that lays out the organizations decision to focus its grantmaking over the next decade on the root causes underlying the nation's health, educational, and financial problems. The report points out that two-thirds of young people and adults live unhealthy lives, engaging in drug use, binge drinking, or unsafe sex. If there's a United Way organization in your community, you can talk with them about your work and how it helps address the issues raised in the report.

The 3rd National Conference on Women, Addiction and Recovery will be held on September 15-17 in Tampa, FL. The conference will bring together a diverse audience with an interest in substance abuse treatment for women and women with children. The conference theme is "Inspiring Leadership, Changing Lives."

Second Chance Act of 2007: Community Safety Through Recidivism Prevention
by Aaron Nelson and Vicki Turetsky outlines the provisions of the Second Chance Act, which was signed into law in April 2008.
