Rep. Jim Ramstad on federal "parity" bill

At our reception, Rep. Jim Ramstad (R-MN) spoke about the negotiations underway in Congress to resolve differences between the House and Senate versions of bills to end insurance discrimination facing people with addiction and mental illness. He told people that he's very pleased by how close negotiators are to reaching a final agreement and that he's optimistic that a final bill will be passed before the Summer District Work Period begins on August 11th. One important remaining issue is how to cover the bill's cost to the federal government.

Ladder to Leadership: Developing the Next Generation of Community Health Leaders
is an exciting program to build the leadership capacity of community-based nonprofit health organizations serving vulnerable populations. 270 early- to mid-career professionals will be chosen to participate in the 16-month leadership development program. It will take place in nine priority communities (Cleveland, OH; Birmingham, AL; Albuquerque, NM; Eastern North Carolina; Portland, OR; Western TN/Eastern AR/Northern MS; New Jersey and Starr County, TX) over the next four years. It will start in the central NY state region, where applications are due July 1, 2008. For more details click here.
