Wellstone-Domenici law update
President Bush was joined by Senators Edward Kennedy (D-MA) and Pete Domenici (R-NM) and Representatives Patrick Kennedy (D-MA) and Jim Ramstad (R-MN) for a ceremonial signing of the Wellstone-Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act on November 20.
Parity Celebration in Washington, DC
On November 17, advocates came together to celebrate passage of the new law in Washington, DC. Among the speakers and guests were Faces & Voices board chair Carol McDaid; David Wellstone and Ellen Gerrity, who worked tirelessly for passage of the new law in the memory of the late Senator Paul Wellstone; former First Lady Rosalynn Carter; Representatives Kennedy and Ramstad; Senator Domenici; former Faces & Voices Board member and Executive Director of the Hazelden Foundation’s Center for Public Policy, William Moyers; Faces & Voices staff; and hundreds of friends and allies. Wellstone-Domenici law Town Hall meeting
The Foundation for Recovery in Las Vegas, Nevada sponsored a Town Hall meeting on the new law on November 14th. The format was a presentation by panelists followed by a moderated question-and-answer period. KTNV Channel 13-ABC morning anchor Tiffani Sargent moderated the well-attended meeting. The panelists included Tom Coderre; Mel Pohl, MD, FASAM, Medical Director of the Las Vegas Recovery Center; Stuart Ghertner, PhD, Agency Director, Southern Nevada Adult Mental Services; and Stacy Hakes, Manager, Clinical EAP Operations, Behavioral Healthcare Options.
