Welcome to our New Board members!
Faces & Voices of Recovery welcomes our new Board members and thanks all of the recovery advocates who put themselves forth as nominees. On June 24-26 the board held its annual retreat in Washington, DC. We also held the second annual Joel Hernandez Voice of the Recovery Community Awards reception on the 25th where we honored PRO-ACT as the outstanding recovery community organization of the year and gave meritorious recognition to the El Paso Alliance (TX), Alabama Voices for Recovery and People Advocating Recovery (KY). Here are some pictures and we’ll be posting a video of the event soon. Thank you to everyone who participated for making this an outstanding evening!
Fourth of July and health care reform
Thanks to the thousands of people who participated in the National Call-in Day on June 17th! We need your continued help to expand opportunities for people to get the help that they need to recover from addiction to alcohol and other drugs. Members of Congress are back home for the July 4th recess, a great time to be in touch with your Representative and Senators about the need to expand opportunities for recovery as part of health care reform. Rally for Recovery! September 12, 2009
Recovery Month is just around the corner and recovery community organizations and allies around the country are gearing up for the biggest public display of the reality of recovery ever! This year, the Brooklyn Bridge Recovery Rally will be the “hub” event for Rally for Recovery! The recovery delegates from all 50 states will be announced later this month. Thanks to everyone who applied to be a delegate! Some of the other Rally for Recovery! events include: South Florida Rally for Recovery!, the Ohio/Kentucky Purple People Bridge Rally for Recovery, and Rally for Recovery at The Woods at Parkside in Columbus, OH . The agency's Web site includes a comprehensive guide for individuals across the country to learn how to regain their voting rights if they are eligible. The site has links for each state that point directly to the state's disenfranchisement laws and restoration procedures.

A new survey from Closing the Addiction Treatment Gap (CATG) initiative found that over three-quarters of Americans, regardless of age, race, income or residence, know someone who has been addicted to alcohol or drugs, and that three-quarters of Americans support including alcohol and other drug treatment in national healthcare reform to make it more affordable.
