Rally for Recovery!
Mark your calendars for 2010 Rally for Recovery! and Recovery Month activities. September 25, 2010 will be this year’s national day and we will be working with recovery advocates across the country to turn out over 100,000 people! We’re putting together a series of organizing tools featuring some of the successful strategies and tools that recovery community organizations used last year. Thanks to PRO-ACT for telling about about how they secured a billboard on busy I-95 to promote their event in our 2010 Organizing Tip No. 1. We’ll be featuring other tools over the coming months. FY 2011 Budget
The Obama Administration has released its proposed FY 2011 budget. Faces & Voices has joined with allied organizations to offer its proposals for Congress to consider as it looks at funding priorities on this chart. People Advocating Recovery’s (KY) campaign to restore voting rights to people with drug convictions is picking up steam with a March 4 Voting Rights Lobby Day to come on the heals of a February 27 Singing for Democracy celebration combining music and activism. Friends of Recovery Vermont’s new web site has information on Video Discussion Groups; Addiction Recovery Training Series; and a March 19 Recovery Day at the State House.
Faces & Voices Board chair honored
Carol McDaid, co-founder of the Richmond, VA-based McShin Foundation, Principal of Washington, DC-based Capitol Decisions and Faces & Voices board chair will receive the 2010 Award of Excellence from the National Council on Community Behavioral Healthcare to refine public policy addressing alcohol and other drug addiction and for her leadership in the enactment of the Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act.
