Massachusetts Organization for Addiction Recovery (MOAR)’s 7th annual Boston Public Policy Forum brought together people from around the state to tackle an epidemic of heroin overdoses in the state, honor State Senator Steve Tolman (D-MA34), and develop strategies to support funding for services in the state including dedicating the alcohol sales tax to addiction, prevention, treatment and recovery. Last year, advocates were successful in fighting back efforts to repeal the tax on alcoholic beverages. Learn more…

Speak Out with Action to Prevent Overdoses
Nancy Norman, MD, Medical Director, Boston Public Health Commission shares the Boston Public Health Commission’s Action for Addiction Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery. Also in attendance was BPHC No Drug Overdose Prevention Coalitions. Speaking before the group was Josh, who was saved by NARCAN and today, works to Prevent Overdoses with North Shore's Gary Langis.

Mass Coalition for Addiction Services collaborating for an Improved Continuum of Care Boston (Ostiguy) Recovery High School Students are living examples of an improved continuum of care and Congratulations to the MA Department of Public Health for The Overdose Prevention Celebration on February 23, 2010. Over 560 overdoses were reversed thanks to the NARCAN Pilot, whose sites were recognized at the Forum.

MOAR’s organized a letter writing and call-in campaign for a hearing this Friday, March 5 before the MA House and Senate Joint Ways and Means Committee on the FY 2011 budget.
