New health care law expands access to care

The historic health care legislation signed into law by President Obama will dramatically expand benefits and coverage for people with addiction. When the law is fully implemented, 32 million Americans who are uninsured today will have access to health insurance coverage, including for addiction. The new law builds on the principle of equity for addiction with other health conditions in the Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 and marks significant progress in making it possible for many more Americans to get the help they need to recover from addiction. Science of Addiction and Recovery trainings

Faces & Voices is partnering with recovery community organizations around the country to hold our Science of Addiction and Recovery trainings this spring and summer. Flo Hilliard is the trainer. They will be in Colorado, Missouri, Nevada, Texas, Massachusetts and Ohio. Making the Promise a Reality

When the Wellstone-Domenici Act was signed into law, it was an important first step in ending insurance discrimination facing people with addiction. There’s information on our web site about this new right and benefit including a place where you can let us know how it’s working for you and information on contacting federal agencies responsible for oversight and enforcement of the law.

What Are Peer Recovery Support Services is a new publication from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment that describes peer recovery support services and the services that have been developed by Recovery Community Services Program (RCSP) grantees.

9th Annual Association of Recovery Schools Conference “On the Trail to Freedom” will be from July 21 to July 23 at Northeastern University in Boston.

“Community Leadership Initiative” from NCADD-New Jersey, in partnership with Join Together, is hosting three regional trainings this April. The Initiative is a statewide network of advocates that is periodically mobilized to take action on public policy issues that address prevention, treatment, and recovery issues in New Jersey.  Learn more...

The Sentencing Project’s Race and Justice Clearinghouse is a new resource of articles, studies and other tools for policymakers, practitioners, and advocates to understand racial disparities so they can be addressed, and make the criminal justice system more fair and effective.

The Fourth National Conference on Women, Addiction and Recovery: Thriving in Changing Times will be in Chicago from July 26-28. The conference is grounded in the principles of recovery and gender-responsive, trauma-informed care. The conference offers opportunities to explore a wide array of topics including comprehensive recovery support for women and women and the criminal justice system.
