Sundays at Freewill Missionary Baptist Church always bring periods of joy and reflection.  This time was no different--except for the inspiring stories of recovery that filled the room.

David battle shook off drug and alcohol addiction after he went to prison.  At the church for "Celebrate Recovery Sunday," Battle says he has come a long way from his old problems.

"I'm a drug treatment counselor at the very same prison facility where I was an inmate," he explained.

Also on hand:  family members, substance abuse professionals, and recovering parolees.

All were there to celebrate National Alcohol and Substance Addiction Recovery Month.

The message was clear.

"You can recover, you can rebuild, you can become whole again," Battle said.

Church officials agreed, happy to help spread the praise.

"There is help for drug and alcohol addiction, and we're just so grateful and excited for them," explained Pastor Edward J. Nettles, Sr.

Through the tribulations of troubled lives, Sunday proved a day of hope for all that deal with or have overcome the problem of addiction.

"I'm living the dream," Battle exclaimed.
