Boston, MA – The Massachusetts Organization for Addiction Recovery ( MOAR) and Mental Health and Substance Abuse Corporations of Massachusetts, Inc. ( MHSACM) are pleased to announce that September 26, 2007 marks the state's 17th Annual Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Celebration Day.

"Recovery Day celebrates individuals and families in recovery from alcohol and other substance use disorders," said Maryanne Frangules, Executive Director of MOAR, the organization that is the primary sponsor of Recovery Day activities.

"We celebrate the vision of overcoming stigma, discrimination, and other barriers to treatment and recovery services. Perhaps most importantly, we celebrate the hope of recovery for individuals and families who need support."

Recovery Day activities include a march, rally and celebration:

9:00 AM, Boston City Hall Plaza. The Teen Challenge Recovery Choir will sing and rally-goers will join their voices together in speaking up for recovery.

9:30 AM, March from City Hall Plaza to State House, Great Hall.

10:15 AM, Celebrate, State House, Gardner Auditorium. Celebrate individuals and families in recovery and call attention to the tremendous unmet need for recovery and treatment services.

12:30 PM, State House. Participants visit their lawmakers to thank them for their support and to urge them to continue supporting treatment and recovery resources.

1:00 PM, Policy Luncheon, State House, Great Hall. Enjoy great food and company at the Massachusetts Bureau of Substance Abuse Services Recovery Month Policy Luncheon (Info: James Hiatt, BSAS Constituent Liaison, 617-624-5102).

These activities are part of Recovery Month which is sponsored by the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Recovery Month highlights the need for recovery and treatment services. This year's theme is Join the Voices for Recovery: Saving Lives, Saving Dollars.

"Substance use disorders can have far-reaching consequences for families and communities. Unfortunately, one out of every five people seeking treatment in Massachusetts is turned away," said Vic DiGravio, President and CEO of MHSACM.

"Recovery Day is a wonderful opportunity to thank legislators for their commitment and to emphasize the need for new resources to help individuals and families overcome the barriers to treatment and recovery."
