Couple founds Ryane’s House of Hope to help addicts with recovery

RACINE — To Ninna Frank, helping people recover from drug and alcohol addiction is a way to honor her son Ryane’s memory.
Ryane Frank struggled with addiction his entire adult life and lost his battle at the age of 28.
Ryane’s House of Hope is a new project in the Racine community that is focused on awareness, prevention and recovery for addiction. Ninna and her husband, Bill, formed the nonprofit organization in Ryane’s memory.
To help fund the project, the organization is hosting a mostaccioli dinner Sunday at Infusino’s Banquet Hall, 3201 Rapids Drive.
There also will be raffles, a bake sale, musical entertainment, family activities and photos with “Star Wars” characters.
Proceeds from the event will go toward the purchase of a House of Recovery. The house will offer a supportive living environment for men in recovery, Frank said. It will offer them a home where they can live, work and begin a life free of addiction with the support of 12-step type programs and house mates who share the same goal. Residents will hopefully be more successful because people are looking out for each other, Frank said.
“There are no houses of this type in Racine,” Frank said. “They’re homes where six or eight men would live on their own with oversight from a board of directors. They work kind of like a family. These type of facilities are very popular in Minnesota.”
Although the Franks don’t have backgrounds in drug and alcohol treatment, Ryane’s House has board members with that type experience, Frank said.
“We’re backed by professional people on the board,” Frank said. “Dennis Reichelt from Wheaton Franciscan is a board member. We’re not professional other than having had a son who struggled with addiction.”
