Lewes mom to join anti-drug and alcohol rally in NY

Tiffany Morman, 35, of Lewes, has been selected as Delaware’s “Recovery Delegate” and will join thousands of individuals and families in recovery, treatment partners and advocates from all 50 states and the District of Columbia for a Lower Manhattan rally and symbolic walk across the historic Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday, Sept. 12.
The Recovery Rally is organized in partnership with the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. (NCADD), Faces and Voices of Recovery, Partnership for a Drug-Free America and the 2009 Recovery Month Planning Partners. This is the second year of the award-winning Recovery Project, a multi-faceted, multi-year initiative led by A&E Network to raise awareness that addiction is a treatable disease and recovery is possible.
Tiffany grew up surrounded by addiction in a small South Jersey town. She started drinking alcohol when she was in high school.
“It provided me much needed escape,” she says.
Her addiction spiraled out of control in college, where she added drugs to the alcohol abuse. One morning, she woke up so hung over she felt she was looking at death in her own eyes. She entered treatment and has been in recovery for 13 years. Today, she has a wonderful husband and two beautiful children.
“My son and daughter’s first memories will be of our time spent on the Delaware Beaches, at the Salisbury Zoo or riding on Funland Pier, but they will never have to recount painful memories of drunk mommy,” she says.
