Eva's Village inaugurated the first Recovery Center in New Jersey at 16 Spring Street, Paterson on September 10th, in a grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony celebrated by the New Jersey State Division of Addiction Services (DAS) and the Eva's Village community. DAS awarded the grant to Eva's Village to develop a Recovery Center which will serve as a model program for a client-centered recovery-oriented system of care. The center is a recovery resource for the community and it maintains a structured schedule of recovery related workshops, trainings, support groups, social events, recreational activities, wellness classes, telephone support, housing and employment assistance, and childcare services all of which are delivered on an on-going basis. The center is managed by individuals recovering from addictions who will use their direct experience to identify the problems and needs of those in recovery and find ways to address them.

"We know people can recover from addictions, but we also know that recovery requires much more than just intervention to quell an immediate crisis," said Department of Human Services Deputy Commissioner Kevin Martone. "This center will provide the sustained support services that will not only foster hope, but enable people to lead successful lives beyond addiction."

"It will take a continued commitment to transform addiction treatment from an acute care model to a recovery management model, but we are well on our way in New Jersey and the creation of this Recovery Center is a monumental step forward," said State Director of Addiction Services, Raquel Jeffers. She continued, "Sister Gloria Perez (Eva's executive director) has made it her life's work to help people, and we can't thank her and her staff enough for their dedication and vision." The Recovery Center is the first of its kind in the State of New Jersey and will be open seven days a week from 9:00am to 11:00pm and every holiday to provide free peer driven recovery support to include: social service referrals, groups, workshops, seminars, socials and programs designed to assist the recovering community. A Peer Advisory Board comprised of recovery community members will evaluate program activities for viability, effectiveness and relevance on an ongoing basis. They will also assist in promoting the mission and vision of the center through networking, fundraising and hands on participation.

Eva's Village is a comprehensive social service agency with a mission to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, treat the addicted, and provide medical care for the poor.
