Face It! Sioux Falls today announced a groundbreaking initiative with 13 major area employers to bring recovery and addiction education and support into workplaces across the community.

The effort will reach an estimated 15,000 employees in the region.

Participating organizations include Avera McKennan, Bell Incorporated, City of Sioux Falls , First Bank and Trust, First Premier Bank, Henry Carlson Company, Home Federal Bank, Howalt-McDowell, Minnehaha County , Raven Industries, Sanford Health, Sencore, and Showplace Wood Products. Additional employers will join the project in 2010.

These employers have partnered with Face It! to help remove barriers to recovery for their employees.

“We commend these employers for showing remarkable leadership in their commitment to actively encourage and support the journey of recovery for their employees and their families,” said Matt Walz, CEO of Face It! Sioux Falls.

Face It! is working with the University of Sioux Falls to evaluate the initiative with tracking surveys and by measuring health care and other data, to help demonstrate that investing in recovery is a sound business strategy.

Face It! is also recruiting volunteers to deliver recovery support services in the community. Persons in recovery and family members are needed for a “Recovery Speakers Bureau,” which will deploy trained volunteers into workplaces to share a message of recovery.

Volunteers are also needed for an innovative peer telephone recovery support service. Face It! has received a $20,000 grant from the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation to launch the program, in which recoverees receive regular telephone calls from trained Face It! volunteers to support their recovery efforts.

Individuals interested in volunteering should contact Tanya Montgomery, Face It! volunteer manager, at (605) 521-9001 or Tanya@faceitsiouxfalls.org.
