Our Stories

Rose Ann King
Radcliff, KY

My name is Rose Ann and I currently live in Radcliff, KY. I am 42 years old, a divorced mom, and I have two wonderful children ages 17 and 21.  I also have a beautiful grand baby that just turned one in July 2007.

My story is not one in which I used drugs when I was a kid or a teen. I didn’t starting getting into drugs until I was 28.  I have relapsed many times; the last time was May 2007.  I was well adjusted, living life as a single mom after divorcing my first husband of 8 years.  I started using cocaine heavily when I met a guy that I later moved in with. He was selling drugs.  Eventually, I wasn't getting enough drugs at home, so I started buying my own on the side. I started to write checks for cash--bad checks that were not mine. I eventually I was arrested , not once, but twice, and served over a year in jail. I also received a 2nd felony, and a state prison I.D. number.  Before I served time in prison, for my second offense, I was released into rehab in Elizabethtown, KY.  I stayed 30 days in an inpatient program and went into a transition home for women for 6 months. I was able to put together 2 1/2 years of clean time when I relapsed. Let me tell you, relapse does happen.

I today have no desire to use again.  I am very active in getting my community involved with drug awareness; I go to support meetings; I have a sponsor; I and am focused on my life.  I am a full time student as well.  To not have the desire to use again means that I had to be honest and ask myself many questions. One that I ask myself all the time is, “am I really ready to stop using?”  I am. I almost landed in a mental institution due to my last relapse and poor choices I had made.  I had enough of the drugs, the style of living and just the pure hell of my addiction. I came very, very close to a mental breakdown.  Luckily for me, I found a way out.  I have overcome the obstacles that led me to stay with someone that was very unhealthy for me. Today, I enjoy my life living alone. I love school and I have goals now that I never had before.  I am alive, healthy and living life to the fullest, but a clean and loving life today!
