Our Stories
Houston M. Scott
Richmond, VA
My name is Houston Scott. I am a recovering addict who was hopelessly addicted and a complete waste to anyone who cared about me. I would always ruin any special event that my family depended on me for. Birthdays, holidays, Sundays, Mondays, anytime, the time didn't matter. As long as I could get high, I could stay hidden away from the people that despised me and what I was doing. I was literally killing myself and as the days went by I would have to have more drugs to cope. I remember thinking after being in the "hood" for three days and completely missing my grandfathers 100 birthday party at Hooters in Roanoke. My little girl, Kate, was waiting on me. She had made a card for her great Granddad. My new fiancé and I had rented a Cadillac so that my family back home in Clifton Forge, Va. would think I was successful. My life was a front, and I acted like I was okay. I fooled many, including myself at times, but I was the only one who knew that I was hopeless.
Today my life is a drug free life. I want to be somebody. I am starting to realize that I am somebody, that my life has meaning, not only to me, but to others who care about me. I own my own business. I am actually getting a band together to play music. I play golf regularly and have improved my relationships with my daughter. I have fallen in love with a very special somebody, that I wont mention in this reading, as she is very private person, and I am still a little unsure about our future, however the future is brighter than it has ever been.
I am very involved with people that are in recovery, and I attend meetings regularly. I am a member of SAARA, and I am starting to love myself.
I thank God for divine intervention, and I thank you for reading my story.
