Starting a local group

The American Self-Help Group Clearinghouse offers free help to people who want to start groups in their community. There are similar state and local groups as well. For example, in the Los Angeles area there is city-specific support; the New Jersey Self-Help Clearinghouse has information on more than 6,750 New Jersey groups as well as resources on starting groups in that state.
